Return To School Update

28 October 2021

Kia ora whānau,

I hope you are all safe in your Alert Level 3 bubbles. We continue to miss seeing you and the children. I wanted to just provide a brief update from yesterday’s announcement by the Minister of Education.

For Years 1 – 8 the Minister has given a TENTATIVE date for schools to return to Auckland on 15 November 2021. This is not a confirmed date and I am merely updating you now to keep you informed. As always, I will give you a further update when we know more.

I can also say now that when we do return to school, it will be different and we will initially have a focus on student wellbeing, settling back into a school routine, reigniting a love of learning, rebuilding relationships and enjoying seeing and being back together with our friends. We know all our children have missed this so much. Learning will continue in different ways and reporting on progress will also look very different. I wanted all our whānau to understand this well in advance. We too are planning ahead and adjusting for what a return will look like.
This means that for now – nearly all our students will continue to remain at home, learning from home and using our distance learning programmes.

I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate and reassure all of you that if the distance/home learning programme is adding stress in your household and some days it feels overwhelming, then have a break. There is no judgement from any of our staff. We will pick things up if we return to school and take it from there.
We are ever mindful that each family faces their own unique set of circumstances, that all your children engage differently, and that learning at home looks very different for every family in our beautiful community.

Please take care of yourselves and your children, look after your own wellbeing during these uncertain times and do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything you need or we can help with. We want to continue to support you and your tamariki during this time.

Thank you again for all your patience, flexibility and superb home teaching skills – your support of us and your children is so valued and so appreciated. We could not do this without you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Ngā mihi nui
